Let's Grow Together!
As sales for North Carolina wine cross the 2 billion dollar mark, we still find ourselves at the infancy of the NC wine explosion. New growers move to North Carolina every year and are in need of guidance regarding varietal selections. The world of vinifera varietals and rootstocks is infinitely complex, and one wrong decision can sink a vineyard for up to 5 years. The NCWAA is aggressively working on publicly available research on multiple varietals and rootstocks in the NC soil so all growers have access to this valuable information
While vinifera varietals have been with us for thousands of years, the methods in growing of these varietals is changing every day. The terroirs in NC are unique and growing methodologies can not simply be imported to our state. The NCWAA is currently launching multiple experiments regarding ways to grow grapes in our unique terroir. As with the vinifera research, all of this data is being recorded and made available to all NC wine growers.
As sustainability is becoming a larger part of the winemaking process, NC needs to be at the front end of these trends and methods. The NCWAA is currently working on a multitude of methodologies that can protect our environment while also being cost effective. The NCWAA will make our home vineyard available for all NC growers to explore our methods and gain knowledge that will help raise all local vineyards to a higher level of quality and sustainability.
